El colibri hotel9/10/2023 The towels supplied reminded me a bit of boy’s club camp - but smaller and rougher. The steam room is about the same temperature with noise similar to an airport runway when a 747 takes off. There is a dilapidated small area on the second with a fiberglass luke warm “hot-tub” right over the highway. When I again insisted in talking to the manager- once again - was informed that this was impossible! Hopefully none of you reading this post will EVER have the opportunity to compare this hotel’s description of itself to the reality of this pathetic excuse of a spa. She thought better of it and at about 1:15 AM! blob called room asking me to email my reservation to her! As you might imagine- this did not cheer us up. Blob at the front desk had no record of my reservation and refused to contact the manager claiming they were not reachable. She then went into an IRS like inquiry about what time we arrived and when did I book the room? We paid for a king corner one bedroom suite and were given one of their smaller rooms. When we realized that we were given the wrong room we asked the blob at the front desk to help. The bar supplied seems to be big enough only to allow rubbing once before it melts away. The leather chairs may have been purchased sometime when California entered statehood - I feared I would not be able to stand again as I sank in. Sitting on the bed reminded me of my youth watching Tarzan when somebody disappeared into the quicksand. We made our way to our room with decor designed by somebody’s dying grandmother - who actually just passed on. Somehow- I knew we may have made a mistake. She smiled much like Morticia from the Adam’s family. We were greeted by an automaton who blurted out a greeting much like a recorded message when you dial an 800 number. We did not take advantage of the beer and wine on tap.…ĭump + No service: For Californians who enjoy waiting on line at the DMV ( Department of Motor Vehicles- for those out of State) and dealing with staff who could care less whether you live or die- you will feel right at home at El Colibri. The common area has a warm, inviting fireplace. One day they had yogurt, the next day they were out. The 2 days we were there, they had pre-packaged honey buns. My only complaint would be the lack of breakfast. So many cute shops and restaurants to explore! It's also a very short drive to Hearst castle and the elephant seal viewing area. The hotel is near the West end of Cambria and a short drive from the east end. Parking is below the building, with a few spots outside on the side. Lisa at the front desk was super friendly. The up and down controls did not change anything! We did use the jacuzzi on the second floor, and they provide you with nice towels and terry lined bathrobes, which was a nice touch! We did not use the steam room. The jets were so strong I had to turn them off. The jacuzzi tub is a little awkward to use. The room was quite spacious and had a nice fireplace. Our room was on the first floor at the very end, one window facing the parking lot and the other window facing the woods. There is a walking path down to the beach, and there are bikes available at the hotel. This hotel is conveniently located at the very edge of Moonstone beach. We stayed here for two nights in order to visit Hearst castle. Hotels near Ephraim Pottery West Gallery.Hotels near Tula Yoga, Fitness & Retreats.
